Miguel Silva, MDDr. Silva specializes in minimally invasive bariatric and general surgery. He is known as one of the early adopters of the gastric sleeve technique and is among the most experienced surgeons in the New York area in Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy. He received advanced training in laparoscopic surgery at Baptist Hospital in Miami, FL. He completed his medical training at Albert Einstein College of Medicine / Montefiore Medical Center, Mount Sinai School of Medicine and University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey / Robert Wood Johnson.

Allen B. Chefitz, MDDr. Chefitz is a board-certified surgeon, specializing in laparoscopic surgery and the use of biomaterials, with interests in hernia and breast research. He received his surgical training from Montefiore Medical Center / Albert Einstein College of Medicine and his medical training from the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worchester. He also has extensive experience in surgical quality assurance.

 

Arpan Goel, MD – General Surgery

Arpan Goel, MDDr. Goel completed his medical degree and internship in India, followed by residencies in West Virginia and Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Montefiore Medical Center. He completed his first fellowship at the Department of Plastic Surgery/Burn at Jacobi Medical Center, Bronx, and a second fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery.

His appointments prior to arriving at Columbia include Attending Surgeon at WestMed Medical Group and at Harlem Hospital Center. Dr. Goel received the 2014 Attending Teaching Award at Harlem Hospital Center, and was named Outstanding Resident Teacher three years in a row at Montefiore Medical Center (2005 – 2007). Dr. Goel has a special interest in abdominal wall hernia repair and bowel wall reconstruction.

Nurse Practitioners

Kathryn Pisseri, FNP-BC

Kathryn Pisseri, FNP-BCKathryn Pisseri, FNP-BC is a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Coordinator specializing in Bariatric Surgery. She has worked at NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital as a Registered Nurse since 2009 and has worked in medical, surgical and emergency settings. She received her Bachelors of Nursing degree at Dominican College of Blauvelt, NY and completed her Master of Science degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner at Pace University. Katie thoroughly enjoys working with her patients and the entire bariatric team to deliver the best care possible.

Jodi Selzer, FNP-C

Jodi Selzer, FNP-C has been practicing as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) since 2000. She has worked in numerous hospitals in New York area including Memorial Sloan Kettering, NewYork-Presbyterian/ Weill Cornell Medical Center and North Shore University hospital. She is a board certified Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Coordinator specializing in Breast Surgery. She received her Bachelors of Nursing degree at University of Michigan and completed her Masters of Science degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner at Georgetown University. Jodi thoroughly enjoys working with her patients delivering the very best care possible.

Mian Catalano, MA, RD, CDN

Mian Catalano MA, RD, CDN is the bariatric dietitian at the Center for Advanced Surgery after practicing as a clinical dietitian at NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital for nearly a year. She received her master's degree in medical nutrition sciences from Boston University School of Medicine and completed her dietetic internship at Yale-New Haven Hospital. She is also a graduate of the Institute of Culinary Education. Mian has an unending interest in the art of food, the science of nutrition, and good health.
